I need to tell you something about those headphones we all wore in elementary school.
The beeping sounds, the little room, the person who didn't work at your school. I think they weren't testing our hearing at all.
I remember sitting in that chair, headphones on, waiting for the beeps. Every kid in the 70s and 80s remembers this. But researching for my new book led me somewhere I wasn't prepared to go about those tests.
The official story says these were standard hearing tests - pure-tone audiometry at 500 to 4000 Hz frequencies. Vision screening programs introduced in the 1980s. Supposedly routine health screenings.
But here's where it gets interesting. People are sharing memories on Reddit and TikTok about 'strange tests' that went beyond normal screening. Tests conducted by people who didn't work at their schools. Tests that felt... different.
I think there's a connection to consciousness research that goes deeper than we've been told. And it connects to discoveries I'm still processing about meditation tapes and what they can unlock in our minds.
